Cross Roads House statistics for Fiscal Year 2009
(July 1, 2008 - June 30, 2009)
In the year ended June 30, 2009, Cross Roads House sheltered 539 people for a total of 26,719 nights.
- On the average night 74 people were in the shelter
- 33 families with 62 children stayed at the shelter; twenty-three were headed by single parents
- Volunteers prepared and served 20,009 meals for our residents
Characteristics of Residents
- On an average night, 90% were from New Hampshire
- 36 were veterans
- 41% had a history of substance abuse. This includes current users and those in recovery. Alcohol and prescription drug abuse are more common than other drugs
- 39% had a diagnosed mental illness or displayed symptoms of an emotional disorder. Virtually no supportive housing is available in our area for these individuals
Transitional Program Outcomes
Residents at Cross Roads House have the opportunity to participate in our Transitional Program, which is designed to give them the time and tools they need to break the cycle of homelessness. Successful families stayed in the Transitional Program an average of 7 months, individuals 5 months.
Of those leaving the Transitional Program:
- 79% of families found permanent housing
- 55% of individuals found permanent housing or were placed in another program
- 27% of individuals found temporary housing or were placed in another residential program
