Cross Roads House statistics for Fiscal Year 2011
(July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011)
In the year ended June 30, 2011, Cross Roads House sheltered 419 people for a total of 27,355 nights.
- On the average night 75 people were in the shelter
- The average stay for a single adult in the emergency shelter was 40 nights
- 28 families with 50 children stayed at the shelter; 18 were headed by single parents
- Volunteers prepared and served over 19,000 meals for our residents
Characteristics of Residents
- On an average night, 97% were from New Hampshire
- 23 were veterans
- 45% had a history of substance abuse. This includes current users and those in recovery. Alcohol and prescription drug abuse are more common than other drugs
- 47% had a diagnosed mental illness or displayed symptoms of an emotional disorder. Virtually no supportive housing is available in our area for these individuals
Program Outcomes
Residents at Cross Roads House have the opportunity to participate in our Transitional Program, which is designed to give them the time and tools they need to break the cycle of homelessness. Successful families stayed in the Transitional Program an average of 10 months, individuals 7 months.
- 60% of families found permanent housing or were placed in another program
- 59% of individuals leaving the Transitional Program found permanent housing or were placed in another program
