Our 7th Annual Benefit by the Sea Event raised over $200,000 for shelter operations and secured our Kresge Foundation Challenge Grant!

On Saturday, May 9, 2009 our 7th Annual Benefit by the Sea event was held at the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel in New Castle, NH. The event raised over $200,000. The success of this event has now secured our $300,000 Kresge Foundation Challenge Grant that will help pay for our new facility.

This tremendous outcome is the result of the generosity of our sponsors, and guests who attended and made pledges of support. While the Campaign for Cross Roads House to rebuild the shelter is still ongoing, proceeds from this event will help to pay for shelter operations throughout the coming year. Guests in attendance at this fabulous evening enjoyed cocktails, followed by a formal dinner, video presentation, pledge opportunity, and live music by Ben Baldwin and the Big Note.

Seacoast Marathon

On November 9th over 1,000 runners and walkers participated in the 3rd Annual Seacoast Half Marathon. This year's race benefited Cross Roads House and raised over $50,000 for the shelter. The tag line for the Seacoast Half Marathon is "Caring For the Coast, One Step At a Time." Each year, the race organizers choose a local non-profit organization to be the beneficiary. In 2006, it was the Market Square Steeple Fund. Last year, the race donated $45,000 to New Heights. The 13.1-mile race started and finished at Portsmouth High School, and took runners on a scenic course through Rye and New Castle.

The support from generous sponsors covered race expenses so that 100% of participant's entry fees went to Cross Roads House. This year's sponsors included: Ocean Properties, Mizuno, Runner's Alley, New Balance, Liberty Mutual Group, Ocean Bank, Poco's Bow Street Cantina, FPL Energy Seabrook Station, Foss Manufacturing Company, Wells Fargo REMB, Exeter Hospital, New England Homes, Gary Blake Saab and The First National Bank of Ipswich. Many local restaurants and food purveyors also supported the race by providing food for runners and volunteers. Those who contributed included: Belle Peppers, BJ's Wholesale Club, Dos Amigos, Dunkin Donuts, Hannaford, Portsmouth Chowder Co., Terra Cotta Pasta Co.

Cross Roads House would like to thank all of the sponsors, race participants, volunteers, and the Seacoast Half Marathon committee members who made this year's race a tremendous success!
