10th Annual Benefit by the Sea


2012 marks 30 years that Cross Roads House has been sheltering the homeless. Many things have changed over the years, but the compassion and commitment of the community to fulfill our mission have not wavered. Today more than ever, financial support is needed from community members. We rely on private donations to fund 2/3 of our annual budget. Proceeds from our Benefit by the Sea event provide critical operating revenue. Please join us and become and active partner in breaking the cycle of homelessness.

Inaugural Leadership Giving Society Reception

On October 11, 2011 Cross Roads House held its inaugural Leadership Giving Society Reception at the Discover Portsmouth Center. The evening was held to recognize and thank society members for their generous support of the shelter. The Leadership Giving Society was founded last year and includes donors who contribute $1,000 or more within one fiscal year (7/1 - 6/30). In addition to being invited to the reception, donors' names have been engraved on a plaque that will hang in the shelter for this year and society members will be highlighted in our next annual report.

During the reception, Executive Director Chris Sterndale provided guests with an update on the current status of shelter operations, demand for services and the renovation of our family shelter building. Board President, David Van Patten shared some highlights and goals from the Board's recent strategic planning session. Guests were also offered canvas bags embroidered with the Cross Roads House logo that had been donated by Port Canvas in Arundel, ME.

Our 9th Annual Benefit by the Sea Event raised over $220,000

On Saturday, May 9, 2011 our 9th Annual Benefit by the Sea event was held at the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel in New Castle, NH. The event raised over $220,000...a phenomenal amount! These funds will provide critical operating revenue for the shelter. In addition to the most basic services that we provide, such as a clean bead, warm meals, and the support of case managers, event proceeds will help us provide for an additional six to eight families later this year. This will be accomplished with the renovation of the remaining old building on our property, which will mark the completion of our facility reconstruction. We are very grateful to all the sponsors and donors who attended our event and made pledges of support.
